Those companies whose business is centred on commerce conducted mainly on the Internet will also build their own particular brand of IDC's. The structure of IDC's for these so called “enterprise” companies although similar to those built by service providers will usually have less ability to be altered in such areas as scalability. Corporate data centres are built to suit the requirements of individual companies’ business models. They may offer differing types of functions for different business requirements including intranet services, and, or, internet services. Corporate data centres may be connected to any kind of server farm as well as securing a connection to the remainder of an enterprise network or possibly private WAN or Internet edge. As well as a range of other, possible options depending on requirements of the companies business needs. More recently more specific enterprise data centres have come online bowing to new needs for application environments these include concepts such as web services, n-tier as well as grid computing. Data centre architecture is certainly far from the end of its evolution and new ideas are being developed at a rapid pace in order to attempt to keep up with changes in requirements from their clients and also uninterruptible power supply requirements.
